The iconic Crittall design originated in the 1880s, introduced by Francis Henry Crittall, an ironmonger from Braintree, Essex. After inheriting his father’s company, Crittall began manufacturing steel-framed windows, crafting black steel welded frames with multi-pane windows and partitions. Today, original Crittall windows, screens & doors remain a protected design that cannot be replicated without a license, giving rise to the need for similar, license-free Crittall-style designs using aluminum profiles.
